springing along

It's a beautiful spring day in Truckee today.
Everyone says we're going to get another winter storm, but I don't think people realize the effects of this catastrophic climate destabilization that we are experiencing, the thing we euphemistically call climate change.
Oh, there is still some snow, but the dry, sage-like shrubs are fully exposed, the sun is warm, and little green sprouts are peeping through the earth telling us that there will soon be flowers. I've been looking at the Sierra College catalogue. There are a number of field courses offered up here in the next few months, including Wildflower identificaiton, local ecosystems, vernal pools of california, biology of waterfowl and marsh birds, field paleontology and ancient environments, Pt. Reyes Seashore Geoplogy, and others. I think before too much more time passes, I need to actually move to California. Bring my sewing machine and other belongings, register to vote, accept a permanent job at the Sierra Business Council.

I have fallen in love with these mountains, this blue sky, this sun, this lake, these views. I want to live in it, breathe it, protect it... not forever, but for now. It makes my mouth water.
